Study ACCA SBL Strategic Business Leader with Learnsignal
In short
ACCA Strategic Business Leader (SBL) is the flagship Strategic Professional paper — a four-hour integrated case study testing leadership, strategy, governance, risk, ethics, and digital technology.
What Is ACCA SBL?
ACCA Strategic Business Leader (SBL) is one of two compulsory papers at Strategic Professional level. It is a four-hour open-book case study exam that tests your ability to think and respond as a senior finance professional at board level, integrating strategy, governance, risk, leadership, digital technology, and professional ethics.
SBL Exam Format
ACCA releases a pre-seen case study several weeks before the exam. The exam introduces an unseen extension and presents four to six tasks worth 10–30 marks each. It is open-book: you may bring printed pre-seen materials and notes. The pass mark is 50%.
Core Syllabus Areas
Leadership and Governance: Corporate governance frameworks, board and committee responsibilities (audit, remuneration, nomination), non-executive directors, and the UK Corporate Governance Code. Strategy: PESTLE, Porter's Five Forces, SWOT, value chain, Ansoff matrix, Porter's generic strategies, SAF evaluation framework, and strategic change. Risk: Risk management process, risk appetite, types of risk, and risk responses. Technology and Data Analytics: Digital transformation, AI, machine learning, big data, and cybersecurity governance.
