What Is ACCA FM?
ACCA Financial Management (FM) — formerly F9 — is an Applied Skills paper developing your understanding of how organisations manage their finances at strategic level: investment appraisal, financing decisions, working capital management, and financial risk management. FM is the prerequisite for Advanced Financial Management (AFM) at Strategic Professional level.
Exam Format
Three hours. Section A: 15 OT questions (15 marks). Section B: three OT case scenarios (30 marks). Section C: two constructed response questions (55 marks). All compulsory.
Core Syllabus Areas
Working capital management: receivables, payables, inventory (EOQ), cash management (Baumol, Miller-Orr), and the operating cash cycle. Investment appraisal: NPV, IRR, payback, relevant cost principles, capital rationing, lease vs buy, and the impact of tax and inflation. Business finance: sources of finance, dividend growth model, CAPM, WACC, capital structure theories (MM with and without tax). Business valuations: asset-based, P/E multiples, DCF, and dividend-based valuations. Risk management: FX risk (transaction, translation, economic), interest rate risk, forward contracts, money market hedges, currency futures, options, and interest rate swaps.
