What Is ACCA FA?
ACCA Financial Accounting (FA) — formerly F3 — is an Applied Knowledge paper establishing the foundational skills of financial accounting: double-entry bookkeeping, trial balance preparation, and the preparation of financial statements for sole traders, partnerships, and companies under IFRS. FA is the prerequisite for Financial Reporting (FR) at Applied Skills level.
Exam Format
Two hours, 100% OT questions. All compulsory, pass mark 50%.
Core Syllabus Areas
Double-entry bookkeeping: the accounting equation, debits and credits, books of prime entry, posting to the general ledger, and extracting a trial balance. Accruals and prepayments: adjusting entries and their impact on the income statement and statement of financial position. Inventory, depreciation, and provisions: FIFO, AVCO, straight-line and reducing balance depreciation, and bad debt provisions. Control accounts and bank reconciliation: receivables control, payables control, and bank reconciliation. Financial statements: preparing a statement of profit or loss, statement of financial position, and basic cash flow for sole traders and limited companies under IFRS.
