CIMA Exam Dates 2026: Objective Tests and Case Study Schedule

Updated

One of CIMA's most important planning advantages is its flexible exam structure — but that flexibility also means candidates need to take an active role in scheduling their papers. Unlike ACCA, which has fixed session windows for all papers, CIMA operates two very different exam formats with two very different scheduling systems.

This guide gives you the complete CIMA exam dates picture for 2026: when Objective Tests are available, when the four Case Study exam windows run, when pre-seen material is released, and when results come out.

The Two CIMA Exam Formats

Understanding the scheduling system starts with understanding the two formats:

FormatPapersAvailabilityBooking
Objective Tests (OTs)E1, P1, F1, E2, P2, F2, E3, P3, F3 (+ Cert BA)On demand — year-roundVia Pearson VUE, any time
Case Study ExamsOLCS, MLCS, SLCS4 windows per yearVia MyCIMA, in advance

CIMA Objective Test Exam Dates 2026

CIMA Objective Tests are available on demand throughout the year — there are no fixed exam dates. You can book and sit your OT exam on any available date at a Pearson VUE test centre, or via remote online proctoring, subject to seat availability.

How to book an OT:

  1. Log in to MyCIMA
  2. Select the paper you want to sit
  3. Click through to the Pearson VUE booking portal
  4. Choose your preferred date, location (test centre or online), and time
  5. Pay the exam fee and confirm your booking

Lead time: Most test centres have availability within 1–2 weeks, though popular locations and dates book up faster. For remote online proctoring, availability is generally even more flexible.

Results for OTs: Provisional result shown on screen immediately after the exam. Official result confirmed in MyCIMA within a few working days.

Important OT rule: You must pass all three OT papers at a given level (e.g., E1, P1, F1 at Operational Level) before you are eligible to sit the Case Study exam for that level.

CIMA Case Study Exam Dates 2026

Case Study exams run in four windows per year. Unlike OTs, you must register for a specific sitting in advance.

WindowExam DatesPre-Seen ReleaseResults Release
March 20263–6 March 2026~21 January 2026~17 April 2026
May 202619–22 May 2026~7 April 2026~2 July 2026
August 202618–21 August 2026~7 July 2026~2 October 2026
November 202617–20 November 2026~6 October 2026~8 January 2027

Note: These dates are based on CIMA's standard release schedule. CIMA publishes official dates on cima.global — always confirm exact dates before booking.

All three Case Study levels (Operational/Management/Strategic) run simultaneously in each window. You can only sit one Case Study per window (you cannot sit OLCS and MLCS in the same window).

Pre-Seen Material: What It Is and When to Start

The pre-seen material is a key feature of CIMA Case Study exams. CIMA releases a detailed scenario document — describing a fictional company's background, strategy, financial position, and industry context — several weeks before the exam.

WindowPre-Seen ReleaseWeeks to Prepare
March sitting~21 January~6 weeks
May sitting~7 April~6 weeks
August sitting~7 July~6 weeks
November sitting~6 October~6 weeks

How to use the pre-seen:

  • Conduct a full SWOT analysis of the company
  • Calculate and interpret key financial ratios from the provided statements
  • Apply Porter's Five Forces and PESTEL to the industry
  • Identify likely exam themes (e.g., a highly leveraged company → likely to face questions on debt management, refinancing, or financial risk)
  • Read analyst-published pre-seen guides (available from BPP, Kaplan, and other CIMA tuition providers)

The pre-seen material describes the company's background but the Case Study exam itself presents new developments ("triggers") that you must respond to on the day. Strong preparation means you respond to the triggers using your deep knowledge of the pre-seen company context.

CIMA Exam Registration Deadlines 2026

For Case Study exams, CIMA sets registration deadlines. Booking after the deadline is not possible — plan ahead.

WindowRegistration OpensEarly Booking DeadlineLate Booking Deadline
March 2026October 2025~9 January 2026~17 February 2026
May 2026February 2026~24 March 2026~28 April 2026
August 2026May 2026~23 June 2026~28 July 2026
November 2026August 2026~22 September 2026~27 October 2026

Early booking is strongly recommended — seat availability is limited, particularly for popular sitting dates.

CIMA Case Study Results Dates 2026

CIMA Case Study exams are marked by human examiners and results take approximately 6–8 weeks after the exam window closes.

SittingExam WindowResults Release (Estimated)
March 20263–6 March~17 April 2026
May 202619–22 May~2 July 2026
August 202618–21 August~2 October 2026
November 202617–20 November~8 January 2027

Results are released via MyCIMA. CIMA provides a mark (as a percentage) and a band (Distinction / Pass / Marginal Fail / Fail), plus feedback on each task within the exam.

Resit timing: If you fail a Case Study, you must wait for the next sitting (minimum one window gap). This means a May failure → earliest resit is August; an August failure → earliest resit is November; a November failure → earliest resit is March of the following year.

CIMA Exam Planning: Choosing Your Sitting

With four Case Study windows and on-demand OTs, planning your CIMA exam sequence requires active decision-making.

LevelRecommended Sequence
OperationalPass E1 → P1 → F1 OTs (any order) → sit OLCS in next available Case Study window
ManagementPass E2 → P2 → F2 OTs → sit MLCS
StrategicPass E3 → P3 → F3 OTs → sit SLCS

Time-pressure consideration: If you want to progress quickly, plan to complete all three OTs at a level with enough time to then sit the Case Study in the same year. For example, completing E1/P1/F1 by end of June gives you enough time to sit the August OLCS.

Don't rush OTs before you are ready: Because OTs are on demand, some candidates sit them prematurely. A fail adds cost and delays your Case Study eligibility. Only sit when you are achieving 65%+ in practice.

Frequently Asked Questions

When are the CIMA Case Study exams in 2026?

CIMA runs four Case Study exam windows in 2026: March (3–6 March), May (19–22 May), August (18–21 August), and November (17–20 November). All three levels (Operational, Management, Strategic) are available in each window. Results are released approximately 6–8 weeks after each window closes.

How far in advance should I book a CIMA Objective Test?

You can book a CIMA OT as soon as you feel ready — there are no fixed windows. Most candidates book 2–4 weeks ahead to give themselves a concrete deadline to study toward. Popular test centre locations book up faster; online proctoring options tend to have more availability.

When does CIMA release pre-seen material?

CIMA typically releases the Case Study pre-seen material approximately 6 weeks before each exam window. For 2026, this means pre-seen release dates of approximately 21 January (March sitting), 7 April (May sitting), 7 July (August sitting), and 6 October (November sitting). Exact dates are confirmed on cima.global.

Can I sit multiple CIMA papers in the same exam window?

You can sit multiple OT papers on the same day or in the same week — they are independent on-demand exams. However, you can only sit one Case Study exam per window (you cannot sit OLCS and MLCS in the same sitting).

What happens if I miss the CIMA Case Study registration deadline?

If you miss the registration deadline for a Case Study window, you must wait for the next window. There are four windows per year, so the maximum wait is approximately 3 months. This is another reason to plan ahead — missing a deadline can set back your progression by an entire quarter.
