Can I Do ACCA Without a Degree? Entry Routes Explained
You do not need a degree to start ACCA. Here are all the routes into the qualification for school leavers and career changers.
No Degree Required
ACCA does not require a university degree for entry. There are multiple routes in depending on your existing qualifications and experience. This is one of ACCA's most significant advantages - it is genuinely accessible to school leavers, career changers from non-accounting backgrounds, and anyone who did not go to university.
Entry Routes
Route 1: Foundation in Accountancy (FIA): If you have no prior accounting qualifications, ACCA offers the Foundation in Accountancy pathway. This includes introductory papers that feed into Applied Knowledge - effectively the entry point for complete beginners.
Route 2: Direct entry with AAT: AAT Level 4 (or equivalent) qualifies you for direct entry into ACCA's Applied Skills level with up to 9 exemptions, bypassing all of Applied Knowledge. This is the most common school-leaver pathway.
Route 3: Direct entry with A-levels or equivalent: You can register for ACCA with A-levels or equivalent qualifications and start from the Applied Knowledge level (BT, MA, FA).
Route 4: Career changer with work experience: ACCA accepts applicants without formal academic qualifications if they have relevant work experience in finance or accounting. Contact ACCA directly to discuss your situation.
Exemptions Without a Degree
Some professional qualifications from other bodies (CPA, AAT, ICAEW Certificate) may entitle you to exemptions even without a degree. The ACCA exemptions calculator at accaglobal.com is the definitive source.
