About the AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting

The AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting (qualification number 603/6339/3) is the capstone of the AAT route and the qualification that earns you full AAT membership (MAAT). It carries 390 guided learning hours and, depending on which two optional units you choose, a total qualification time of 985, 1,022 or 1,059 hours.

Applied Management Accounting takes budgeting, costing, and performance management to a strategic level. Drafting and Interpreting Financial Statements covers full-company accounts under UK GAAP and IFRS, including consolidations. Internal Accounting Systems and Controls looks at how a finance function is built, controlled, and improved. You'll then specialise — pick two from Business Tax, Personal Tax, Audit and Assurance, Cash and Financial Management, and Credit and Debt Management.

Level 4 is assessed by five computer-based exams, one per unit. Passing it qualifies you for full MAAT status and gives exemptions toward ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, and CIPFA — making it a recognised route into chartered practice as well as a complete professional qualification in its own right.

The Level 4 Diploma qualifies you as an AAT Licensed Accountant (MAAT) and leads to roles such as Assistant Financial Accountant, Tax Supervisor, Commercial Analyst, Payroll Manager, Senior Bookkeeper, Senior Finance Officer, and Audit Trainee. It also gives exemptions from ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW and CIPFA.
