One of the lesser-known benefits of studying ACCA is the opportunity to earn a BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University — a real UK university degree, awarded alongside your professional ACCA qualification. Here is how it works and what you need to know.

What is the Oxford Brookes BSc in Applied Accounting?

Oxford Brookes University has a long-standing partnership with ACCA that allows students who complete certain ACCA exams to also be awarded a BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting. This is a full bachelor's degree from a recognised UK university — not a certificate or a professional award — making it particularly valuable for ACCA students who do not hold an undergraduate degree from another institution.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to apply for the Oxford Brookes BSc, you must have:

  • Passed all nine Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills ACCA exams (the first two levels of the qualification, covering BT, MA, FA, LW, PM, TX, FR, AA, and FM)
  • Completed the ACCA Ethics and Professional Skills Module (EPSM)
  • Been registered as an ACCA student
  • Kept your ACCA subscription fees up to date

There is also a currency requirement: your Research and Analysis Project (RAP) must be submitted within 10 years of your earliest ACCA exam pass, or you must have passed three ACCA exams in the five years before submission.

The Research and Analysis Project (RAP)

The core requirement beyond the exams is the submission of a Research and Analysis Project (RAP) — an independent research piece of approximately 6,500 words on one of 20 approved topics. Topic 8, which involves analysing the business and financial performance of an organisation over three years, is the most popular choice.

The RAP is submitted online with a project mentor declaration and a skills and learning statement. You pay a submission fee to Oxford Brookes at the time of submission.

Important 2026 Update

Oxford Brookes University announced that it will not offer the BSc Applied Accounting programme after May 2026. The May 2026 RAP submission window was the final opportunity for new submissions. Students who submitted in May 2026 will receive their results in October 2026. One resubmission opportunity remains available for those who failed — in November 2026.

If you submitted your RAP before May 2026 and are awaiting results, or if you have a resubmission in November 2026, this guide is still relevant to you. For new ACCA students starting the qualification now, the Oxford Brookes BSc pathway is no longer available.

Why Was the Oxford Brookes BSc Valuable?

For ACCA students without a prior university degree, the Oxford Brookes BSc provided a way to hold both a professional accounting qualification and a university degree simultaneously. This was particularly useful in markets where degree-level credentials are required for certain roles or visa purposes, and for students who wanted to demonstrate academic as well as professional competence to employers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Oxford Brookes BSc still available?

Not for new applicants. Oxford Brookes closed the programme to new submissions after May 2026. Existing candidates with a resubmission opportunity in November 2026 can still complete the programme.

Is the Oxford Brookes BSc a real degree?

Yes. It is a BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting awarded by Oxford Brookes University — a fully recognised UK higher education institution. It is a genuine undergraduate degree, not a professional certificate.

Do I need the Oxford Brookes BSc to become ACCA-qualified?

No. The BSc was an optional extra for eligible ACCA students. Completing ACCA exams and the PER is all that is required to become a full ACCA member.

Can I put the Oxford Brookes BSc on my CV?

Yes. If awarded, it is a legitimate university degree and should be listed under your education section alongside your ACCA qualification.
