ACCA Exemptions: Edinburgh, Glasgow and Scottish University Graduates
ACCA Exemptions for Scottish University Graduates
Graduates from the University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, Heriot-Watt University, Strathclyde, and other Scottish universities with accounting or finance degrees are typically eligible for ACCA exemptions covering some or all of the Applied Knowledge papers and several Applied Skills papers.
Heriot-Watt and ACCA
Heriot-Watt has a long-standing ACCA-accredited programme and its accounting graduates typically receive strong exemptions. Heriot-Watt also offers a distance-learning BSc that is popular with mature students studying alongside work, and ACCA exemptions are available from this route too.
University of Edinburgh and Glasgow
Both universities' accounting and finance programmes carry ACCA exemptions. Scottish four-year degree structures mean graduates complete additional content compared to English three-year degrees — check the exemptions calculator with your specific year of graduation and modules studied.
Scottish Chartered Accountant vs ACCA
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) is the local chartered body and many Scottish graduates with Big 4 or Top 10 firm jobs will train for the CA qualification. ACCA is the stronger option for industry roles, smaller firms, and internationally mobile careers.
