GARP FRM CPD Requirements: 40 Credits Every Two Years
GARP FRM and ERP holders earn 40 CPD credits every two years. See the cycle dates, how reading counts and how audits work.
GARP says FRM and ERP holders earn 40 continuing professional development (CPD) credits every two years, where one hour of learning is one credit. The cycle runs for 24 months from January 1, and credits are submitted through the Credit Tracker in your GARP portal. This guide explains how the cycle starts, how credits are calculated for reading, courses and events, and how GARP checks submissions, using GARP's CPD page and FRM FAQ. If you are still preparing for the exams, see our FRM certification guide and what the FRM is.

How the cycle works
A GARP CPD cycle spans 24 months starting on January 1 and ending on December 31 the following year. For example, a cycle starting on January 1, 2025 ends on December 31, 2026. Your first cycle depends on when you certified. If you certified on or before June 30, it starts that same year. If you certified after June 30, it starts the following January. Knowing your cycle end date matters because it is the date by which your credits should be complete.
How credits are counted
One hour of activity is worth one credit, and 15 minutes is worth 0.25 credit. For reading, GARP estimates 1.5 minutes per page of non-technical material and 3 minutes per page of technical material, so a 20-page technical paper is worth one credit. Chapter meeting credits are recorded automatically. Credit values on GARP's CPD page range from 0.5 for some podcasts to 40 for a training course, which means a single approved course can cover an entire cycle.
What counts
GARP features training courses, GARP volunteering, conferences and events, webcasts and podcasts, and featured readings. The page does not give a full list, and we could not read the CPD handbook, so check GARP's Credit Tracker for the credit value of a specific activity before you rely on it.
Reporting and audits
Credits are submitted through the Credit Tracker. The FAQ describes CPD as based on an honor system, with random annual audits and time allowed to provide verification. That means you should keep evidence for every activity you claim, such as certificates, event confirmations and notes on readings. The FAQ says FRM-certified professionals are encouraged to participate in CPD. It does not state penalties for missing credits, and we did not find any consequences on GARP's CPD page.
Keeping evidence
Because GARP relies on an honor system with random audits, a short habit saves time later. For each activity, save the date, the title, the provider or event name and the number of hours, together with a certificate, confirmation email or screenshot where one exists. For reading, note the title and page count so you can show how you reached the credit figure. If you are audited, GARP allows time to provide verification, but you will still need the documents to hand. Entering credits in the Credit Tracker as you go also protects you from forgetting items in the final months of the cycle.
A note on the ERP
GARP's ERP page has no CPD figures of its own and links to the CPD page, so the 40-credit figure applies to ERP holders as well. We found no GARP statement about a charterholder requirement, so we have not covered it.
A two-year plan
Forty credits is about 20 a year, or less than two a month. A simple plan is one conference or training course in year one, a handful of webcasts, and regular reading logged at the 1.5 or 3 minutes per page estimate. Log each item in the Credit Tracker the same month, and leave the final quarter free for filling gaps. Related reading on our blog includes the FRM pass rate and the FRM salary guide.
