ACCA Business and Technology (BT) has the highest published pass rate of the nine Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills papers: 89% at the June 2026 sitting, according to ACCA's pass rates page, with 87% in December 2025 and 88% in June 2025. A high pass rate does not make BT effortless, because the paper covers a wide range of business theory and gives you little time per question. This page sets out ACCA's published figures by sitting, the exam format, the topics that examiners say candidates handle badly and how to prepare.

ACCA BT pass rate by sitting

SittingPass rate shown by ACCA
June 202689%
March 2026N/A on ACCA's page
December 202587%
September 2025N/A on ACCA's page
June 202588%

ACCA's published figures for Business and Technology range from 87% to 89% across the sittings shown, and the most recent, June 2026, was 89%. Across the nine Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills papers on ACCA's page, the June 2026 figures run from 41% for Performance Management to 89% for Business and Technology, so BT ranks 1 of 9 by June 2026 pass rate. Two cautions apply to every number on this page. First, ACCA publishes these figures on its pass rates page without calling them global, and its footnote says only that they are the results achieved by students for paper-based and computer-based examinations, so we describe them as ACCA's published pass rates and not as a worldwide average. Second, a pass rate describes a group of candidates and not you: it moves with how well prepared the people sitting that session happened to be. ACCA's next set of results, for the September 2026 sitting, is due on 19 October 2026, and we will refresh this page when ACCA's pass rates page is updated. The pass mark for every ACCA exam is 50%.

BT exam format

BT is a two-hour computer-based exam. According to ACCA's study guide, Section A contains 30 two-mark and 16 one-mark objective test questions, and Section B contains six four-mark multi-task questions. Because there are so many short questions, pace matters more than depth on any single item. ACCA runs the Applied Knowledge exams on demand throughout the year, so you choose your own date and do not wait for a fixed sitting. That is why ACCA's page shows N/A for the March and September columns for this paper.

What BT covers

BT is a broad introduction to the business context an accountant works in. The syllabus areas cover how organisations are structured and run, the economic and external environment, the stakeholders around a business, governance and ethics, the finance and accounting function, the other business functions and the technology that supports them, and personal effectiveness at work. ACCA does not publish topic weightings, so do not rely on third-party percentage splits; revise the whole study guide and check the current version on ACCA's website.

Where candidates lose marks

ACCA's recent examining team reports point to a short list of weak spots. They are microeconomics and macroeconomics, management theories, corporate governance theories, stakeholder analysis using the Mendelow power and interest grid, and time management. The first four look like knowledge gaps, which is a reason to give the economics and theory areas the same attention as the topics you find more interesting. The last is a technique problem: with 46 objective questions and six multi-task questions to finish in two hours, candidates who linger lose marks on questions they never reach.

How to prepare for BT

Start with the economics and theory areas, because those are where the examiners say marks go missing. Make short notes that link each theory to a worked example of a real organisation, and practise applying a theory to a scenario rather than reciting it. Do timed objective test sets so that you know how long you spend per question; a sensible aim is to finish the whole paper with a few minutes to review flagged answers. For the multi-task questions, read the requirement first, then the scenario, and answer exactly what is asked. Use our guide to passing BT for a study plan.

What is changing for 2026-27

ACCA's materials do not show a syllabus change for BT between the September 2026 and June 2027 sittings, so study material written for the current syllabus should remain valid. Confirm this against the current study guide and exam admin pages before you book, because ACCA can update its guidance.

What is the pass mark for ACCA BT?

The pass mark is 50%, as it is for every ACCA exam.

Is BT an easy exam?

The published pass rate is the highest of the nine papers, but ACCA's examiners report recurring weaknesses in economics, management and governance theories and in time management. Treat the pass rate as encouraging, not as permission to under-prepare.
