About the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting
The AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting (qualification number 603/6337/X) is the intermediate step in the AAT professional pathway. Across 400 guided learning hours and a total qualification time of 620 hours, you'll complete four mandatory units that take you from foundation bookkeeping to preparing full financial statements, managing costs and budgets, and running the tax processes that every UK business relies on.
Business Awareness grounds you in how organisations work, the external environment they operate in, and the role of ethics, technology, and sustainability in modern accounting. Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements builds your double-entry skills up to sole-trader accounts. Management Accounting Techniques introduces budgets, variances, and decision-making tools. Tax Processes for Businesses covers VAT, payroll taxes, and HMRC compliance.
Level 3 is assessed by four end-of-unit computer-based exams. Passing it qualifies you for associate AAT bookkeeping membership (AATQB) and prepares you for the final professional Level 4 Diploma.
Level 3 opens up roles such as Accounts Payable and Expenses Supervisor, Senior Bookkeeper, Assistant Accountant, Payroll Administrator, Tax Assistant, and Finance Assistant. It also provides the technical grounding for progression to Level 4 and chartered studies.
